Waynesville Library’s Horse Program

Waynesville Library’s Horse Program

At the beginning of the month, the Waynesville Library had a horse program open to the public. The horse program was organized as part of the summer reading program. The Waynesville Library is taking place in Off the Beaten Path - Camp IREAD.

The summer reading program in Waynesville takes place from June 15th-July 27th. As children complete a reading log, they are able to color a tent and make their own campsite on the poster in the library. Programs and lessons also run for ages 3 and up. There are only two sessions left for this summer. Guests from The Miller Park Zoo are coming on July 20th. Then, face painting follows on July 27th. Both events take place at 2 pm and are free of charge.

Specifically, the horse program took place on July 6th. It brought in 33 children with a total of about 50 people. This attraction brought in families from several other towns too! This was a record turnout for any library event in Waynesville! It was also a very hot night for an outdoor event to be taking place. Holly Murphy of the Waynesville Library puts forth her thanks to all the parents who brought their kids out in the heat.

For the show itself, Renee Dworak and Missy Lowe brought in their ponies to share. First of all they informed the audience that the horses were in fact ponies, and that there is a big difference between the two. Renee and Missy are from rural Waynesville and they have horses and ponies for recreational purposes to enjoy riding the trail. The two ponies that were brought out were named, Cisco and Jasmine. The teachers taught the children about general horse care and the different parts of a harness. Then, everyone was able to feed the ponies carrots, pet them, and finally sit on them to take pictures. All the children had a blast!
